
Barb King, PhD, RN, APRN-BC, FAAN, and her Co-PI, Dr. Jane Mahoney of the School of Medicine and Public Health, were awarded a five-year R33 grant funded by the National Institute on Aging to support the study Enhancing the Community-Academic Aging Research Network to Support Assistive Technology (AT) Research for Older Adults by Designing for Dissemination and Health Equity.
The primary goal of Dr. King’s project is to enhance the infrastructure of the Community-Academic Aging Research Network (CAARN) to facilitate the formation and collaboration of transdisciplinary teams of engineers and/or computer scientists, healthcare providers, social scientists, and community partners to develop, test, and disseminate innovative assistive technology interventions for older adults from diverse and historically underrepresented populations with age-related or multiple chronic conditions. CAARN’s community network partners include the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging (WIHA), the African American Health Network (AAHN) of Dane County, UW Center for Community Engagement and Health Partnerships (CCE) in Milwaukee, and MetaStar.
The investigative team includes Dr. Jiang Hongrui (College of Engineering), Dr. Dorothy Farrar-Edwards (School of Education), Dr. Eva Vivan (School of Pharmacy), Gina Green-Harris (School of Medicine and Public Health), Dr. Robert Radwin (College of Engineering), Emily Nelson (Metastar), Dr. Kat Phelps and Mariana Garcia (Wisconsin Network for Research Support). The total award is $3,266,744.
