The UW–Madison School of Nursing offers a generous annual scholarship program to incoming and current School of Nursing students. We encourage all applicants and current students to apply for scholarships.
We consider all applicants for School of Nursing scholarships based on academic achievement, leadership experience, community involvement, personal qualifications, financial need, and career interests.
Make Your Education Affordable
Wisconsin School of Nursing Scholarships
We provide approximately $1.6 million in scholarship support to admitted students each year. All current nursing students and applicants are encouraged to apply for School of Nursing scholarships via the Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (WiSH).
UW–Madison Financial Aid
- Explore the Office of Student Financial Aid for information on financial aid, scholarships, grants, and loans.
- Resources are available for both prospective students and those who are already enrolled at UW–Madison.
Federal Student Aid
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for financial aid.
- Federal grants, loans, and work-study programs are awarded to students who qualify for financial aid.

Traditional BSN (TBSN) Program Scholarships
Timeline
- Applications are open mid-January through late February for the upcoming academic year.
Eligibility
- Students who are applying for admission to or who are continuing in the TBSN program.
Application Information
- Prospective TBSN students who have applied for admission to the School of Nursing and are awaiting their admissions decision should apply for School of Nursing scholarships during this application window.
- Scholarships are awarded for one academic year. Students must submit a scholarship application each year during the appropriate application cycle.
Accelerated BSN (ABSN) Program Scholarships
Timeline
- Applications are open mid-September through late October for the incoming cohort.
Eligibility
- Students who are applying for admission to the ABSN program.
Application Information
- Scholarships are awarded for one academic year, which includes the Summer/Fall/Spring semesters.
- Prospective ABSN students who have applied for admission to the School of Nursing and are awaiting their admissions decision should apply for School of Nursing scholarships during this application window.
BSN@Home Program Scholarships

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program Scholarships
Scholarship Timeline
- Applications are open early-December through mid-January for the upcoming academic year.
Eligibility
- Students who are applying for admission to or who are continuing in the DNP program.
Application Information
- Scholarships are awarded for one academic year; therefore, students must submit a scholarship application each year during the appropriate application cycle.
- Prospective DNP students who have applied for admission to the School of Nursing and are awaiting their admissions decision should apply for School of Nursing scholarships during this application window.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Funding
Prospective and current students do not need to complete a scholarship application. PhD students admitted to the program may be offered a funding package. This package typically includes the following:
- Full tuition remission, not including segregated fees
- Monthly graduate assistant stipend, provided as compensation for a teaching or project assistant position
- Discounted family health insurance plan
Students who are offered a funding package and remain in good academic standing typically receive four academic years of financial support. Packages may vary from year to year. Details on funding packages are provided following admission offers.
