Wisconsin DSPS, Nursing Colleges Announce Accelerate Wisconsin Initiative

Wisconsin Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services | May 10, 2024

The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) recently announced its new workforce focused Accelerate Wisconsin initiative, which will include partnerships with UW-Madison, Madison College, and Edgewood College. The initiative will collaborate with participating nursing schools across the state to offer their students a faster path into the Wisconsin workforce.

“Through this partnership with state nursing schools, students are offered a pathway for taking their required national nursing exam, the NCLEX, before graduation. Starting with this graduating class,” said DSPS Secretary Dan Hereth. “Think of it like the Fast Pass at an amusement park. For those students who are approved and ready to test early, this will ensure they are licensed within three business days of graduation.”

“Our school is producing highly-skilled nurses that are in demand across Wisconsin,” said UW-Madison School of Nursing Dean Linda Scott. “New graduates will now have a more efficient but equally rigorous process from graduation and licensure testing to enter into the nursing workforce.”
