What is a fun fact about you?
I love to wing foil and am currently teaching my kids how to do it!

Tell me about your role and what you like about working at the School of Nursing.
As the director of advisor and student services, we have a team of eight and we support undergrad and graduate students. It really runs the gamut from welcoming students in as a freshman to helping them through graduation and licensure.
I just love seeing the process. I love seeing the students transition from coming in as freshmen sometimes, sometimes as transfer students, and just coming in at different stages of life. Then working their way through their education, making connections with our faculty, making connections with all of us, and then graduating and just really building that confidence and getting out there. It’s kind of fun.

What’s the biggest impact you’ve seen the school have in your time here?
The biggest impact that I’ve seen is really through that student lens. I’ve really seen the students work through change and transition with a high level of stamina and just hitting a barrier, rising above it and then continuing forward, hitting a barrier, rising above and continuing forward.
The students have an amazing amount of resilience. And I’ve just seen that over and over since my time being here. And I’m really looking forward to watching the students carry that momentum forward into the next 100 years, because I think they will be impactful on health care and the discrepancies that we’re seeing in health care. The students are passionate about providing inclusive, equitable care.

What has helped you along the way to grow and develop your career here?
Having exceptional mentors and thought partners, some that are at similar stages in life, some that are not, have all helped me grow and develop in my career. Without these mentors, I’m not sure I’d be equipped to find the right balance between life and work.
What is your favorite insider tip about the School of Nursing (e.g., where to find the best snacks) or advice you have for someone who wants to start a career here?
There are amazing rooms all around the building so you can normally find a meeting location with sunshine and/or a view of the outside!
Every position on our campus makes an impact on our campus community and beyond. How does your role contribute to the Wisconsin Idea?
My role contributes to the Wisconsin Idea by working with students. I help students navigate the unknown, build emotional intelligence, become critical thinkers, and learn to trust themselves. By supporting the next generation of change makers, the Wisconsin Idea is alive every day in my office!
