The School of Nursing uses a holistic admission process to identify students for the Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (TBSN). Follow the directions carefully to complete all steps of the application process.
- This program is for pre-nursing students at UW-Madison, non-nursing transfer students, and non-nursing bachelor’s degree holders (second-degree) applicants.
- If not already at UW-Madison, students must be admitted to UW-Madison to be a part of this program.

- Application is open: December 1–January 15.
Steps to Apply for Transfer, Reentry, and Second-Degree Applicants
- Review the prerequisites
- Check TBSN eligibility
- Review application process through NursingCAS
- Apply to UW–Madison using the Universities of Wisconsin application
- Find the application for your student type (transfer, reentry, second degree). Each application has different requirements and deadlines.
- Transcripts for the UW–Madison application should be sent to “University of Wisconsin-Madison” and not “University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing.”
- Your UW–Madison application is reviewed by the university’s Office of Admissions and Recruitment at the same time your nursing application is being reviewed by Nursing.
- Admission to UW–Madison does not guarantee admission into the nursing program.
- Application is open: December 1–January 15.

Application Review
Representatives of the School of Nursing will review submitted applications for eligibility. This review process will generally take 2-3 weeks to complete following the application due date. All applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be invited to participate in a virtual group interview.
Interview Scheduling
Eligible applicants will be emailed and asked to provide their available interview times. Failure to respond to the request for times will result in applications being removed from admission consideration. After the due date passes, the School of Nursing will build the interview schedule. Applicants will receive specific interview dates and times at least one week before the scheduled interview times. Information about what to expect and how to prepare for the interview will be included in the communication. Reschedules will not be allowed unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Virtual Group Interview
The group interview typically includes three faculty interviewers and 3-4 applicants. Each applicant will have about one minute to answer each question, and each applicant will have a turn to answer a question first, second, third, and last. Please note that both video and audio capabilities are required for the group interview.
Admission Decision Notification
Historically, admissions notifications for the Accelerated BSN have been made by the end of December and Traditional BSN notifications have been made by mid-May.
Rescinding Admission

- You do not respond to the admission offer by the stated due date

- You earn below a C (2.0) grade in a prerequisite course
- your spring coursework drops your cumulative and/or prerequisite GPA below the 2.75 minimum

- You do not successfully graduate with your first bachelor’s degree prior to starting the program (ABSN only)
