Amy Van Aartsen began her Translating Evidence to Practice in Public Health (TEP-PH) Internship with the Wisconsin Public Health Research Network (WPHRN) in July of 2019 excited to be exposed to translational research and learn more about what the process looks like for implementing evidence into public health practice. Part of Amy’s work has been supporting WPHRN member Kristen Malecki, PhD in the dissemination of her research findings related to the Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW). Amy is a graduate student at UW-Madison in public health and has a master’s degree in organic chemistry. She first became interested in public health while completing the global health certificate at UW-Madison. As part of the global health program, Amy completed her fieldwork in Sierra Leone where she worked on a community development project. She also completed an internship in Ecuador focused on women’s reproductive health. During graduate school, Amy has enjoyed leading a discussion section for one of the undergraduate global health courses, Population Health 370. Amy is grateful that she was exposed to public health early in her career as it has informed her future career aspirations.
