Elisha J. Smith, BSN, RN is a current Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, a graduate teaching assistant in the School of Nursing, and a medical-surgical float pool nurse at UW Health. Elisha completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2014. Prior to his current roles, Elisha worked as a nurse for four years in the Orthopedics unit and Critical Care unit at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI. During his nursing career at Gundersen, Elisha was involved in unit-based improvement projects as a member of the Unit Nursing Practice, Education and Quality (UPEQ) Committee, and the Safe Patient Handling liaison for the Critical Care Unit. His commitment to leadership engagement continues as the DNP student representative of the Curriculum Committee. Elisha received the Outstanding Badger Nursing Award from the UW Nurses Alumni Organization in 2017. His professional passions lie in improving continuity of care throughout the care continuum for vulnerable populations with complex healthcare needs related to cardiopulmonary dysfunction, and educating the future generation of nurses.
