Dr. Laurie Newton is a Clinical Associate Professor at the UW-Madison School of Nursing. She has been a pediatric nurse practitioner for 17 years who is dual-certified in both primary and acute care. She maintains a full-time clinical practice at Children’s Wisconsin in pediatric otolaryngology. She is also an assistant director for advanced practice providers for Children’s Specialty Group and is responsible for the development and ongoing support of their pediatric APP fellowship program. She teaches part time in the pediatric DNP program, primarily teaching in the clinical and foundation courses.

Clinical Scholarship focus areas

Teaching and Learning

  • Developed a unique teaching methodology for the pediatric DNP foundations course utilizing podcasts to deliver content
  • Creation of unique simulation experiences for pediatric DNP students, including clinical immersion and service-based learning with middle school students
  • Ongoing use and evaluation of simulations which expand upon one another each semester, including a pediatric “on call” day that has been well received by students
