Michael is currently a PhD candidate with University appointments in the School of Nursing and School of Medicine and Public Health Department of Psychiatry. His program of research focuses on the influence of shame in patient-clinician interactions in the context of chronic condition management delivered through rural primary care. His work is informed by trauma-informed care principles, sociolinguistic investigation of naturally occurring conversation, social needs derived from social determinants of health, and an evolving concept of shame-sensitive practice.
