The School of Nursing is pleased to welcome 14 new faculty members for the 2019-2020 academic year. These new additions will help the school expand academic programming and strengthen its research enterprise as it continues to advance healthcare for all.
Tenure Track Faculty
Madelyne “Mady” Greene, PhD, RN, joins the school as an assistant professor. Greene received a bachelor’s in women and gender studies from Georgetown College, and a bachelor’s in nursing and a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. She recently completed postdoctoral studies at the UW–Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. Greene’s research examines mechanisms that cause and perpetuate disparities in sexual and reproductive health, with a focus on health providers and health systems. In her first year, Greene will be teaching in our undergraduate program.
Maichou Lor, PhD, RN, joins the school as an assistant professor. She earned her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate in nursing from UW–Madison. She has recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University. Lor’s research is focused on improving data collection for research and patient-provider communication in health care delivery settings among vulnerable populations using applied informatics. She will teach in the undergraduate program in the year ahead.
Kathleen “Kitty” Montgomery, PhD, RN, PCNS-BC, CPHON, comes to the school as an assistant professor. She has a bachelor’s in health education from the University of Iowa, and a master’s and doctorate in nursing from UW–Milwaukee. She recently completed a postdoctoral research fellowship. An experienced pediatric nurse and clinical nurse specialist, Montgomery’s research is focused on pediatric oncology and symptom management. Montgomery will teach in our DNP program this academic year.
Megan Zuelsdorff, PhD, comes onboard in an assistant professor position. Zuelsdorff received her bachelor’s in neurobiology & neurosciences, master’s in population health sciences, and doctorate in epidemiology at UW–Madison. She recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship and comes to us from an assistant scientist position and a research fellowship. Her research focuses on social-biological pathways that underlie cognitive and functional health disparities in later life. In her first year with us, she will teach in the PhD program and assist with course development in the DNP program.
Clinical Faculty
Deanna Blanchard, MSN, RN-BC, returns to the School of Nursing as a clinical instructor. Blanchard received her master’s in nursing from Edgewood College. She is an experienced educator returning to teach part time in our undergraduate program.
Tammy Bomkamp, MSN, RN, returns to the School of Nursing as a clinical instructor. Bomkamp received her bachelor’s in nursing from Edgewood College and her master’s in nursing from the University of Phoenix. She is an experienced clinician and educator. Bomkamp will be working with the school full time and teaching in our undergraduate program.
Nichole Hinkel, MSN, RN-BC, is joining our clinical faculty as a clinical instructor. Hinkel received her bachelor’s in nursing and master’s in nursing leadership and health care management from Viterbo University. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in nursing education from Capella University. Hinkel will work full time with undergraduate students in experiential courses.
Briana Hutchinson, MSN, RN, PCCN, comes on board as a clinical instructor. Hutchinson completed her bachelor’s in nursing at Grand Valley State University, and her master’s degree at Walden University. Hutchinson is an experienced RN clinician and currently works at UW Hospitals and Clinics. Hutchinson will work part time with undergraduate students in experiential courses.
Dawna McMillan, DNP, APRN, ACNP-BC, joins the faculty as a clinical assistant professor. McMillan completed her DNP in adult gerontology acute care at the University of Illinois at Chicago. During the fall semester, she will be teaching part time in the DNP program’s acute care nurse practitioner track.
Rebecca “Becky” Muehrer, PhD, RN, joins the faculty as a clinical associate professor. Muehrer received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate at the UW–Madison School of Nursing. She is an experienced clinical and nursing instructor. Muehrer will be teaching part time in our undergraduate program.
Dana O’Brien, PhD, MSN, MHA, RN, CNE, joins our faculty as a clinical assistant professor. O’Brien received an associate degree in nursing from Southwest Tech, and her bachelor’s degree, master’s in nursing, master’s in healthcare administration, and doctorate in nursing education from Capella University. O’Brien is an experienced nurse, supervisor, and patient care director. She has also had substantial experience as a nursing instructor at Southwest Tech. O’Brien will be teaching full time in our undergraduate program.
Sarah Saari, DNP, AGACNP-BC, joins our faculty as a clinical assistant professor. Saari received her DNP from UW–Madison. During the fall semester, she will be teaching part time in the DNP program’s acute care nurse practitioner track.
Stacy Schmitt, MSN, RN, was hired as a clinical instructor. Schmitt completed a bachelor’s in community health education at UW–La Crosse and an associate degree in nursing at Moraine Park Technical College. She received her master’s in nursing from Grand Canyon University. Schmitt is an experienced nursing instructor with professional experience in school, parish, and long-term care nursing. Schmitt will be teaching part time in our undergraduate program.
Christine “Chris” Smith, MS, RN, joins the faculty in a permanent position as a clinical instructor. Smith received her bachelor’s and master’s in nursing from UW–Oshkosh. She is an experienced clinician and RN case manager. She also has experience as a nursing instructor for Edgewood College and UW–Madison. Smith will continue her work from the spring, teaching in experiential courses in our undergraduate program.
