During the Investiture Ceremony on Tuesday, October 23, the UW–Madison School of Nursing installed the members of our faculty who hold named chairs or professorships. We honored these leaders in nursing education and acknowledged the generosity of the donors who invested to endow positions that will advance the mission of the School. Furthermore, we also presented the inaugural Canary Savage Girardeau Award for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion to Barbara L. Nichols.
Please join us in congratulating these exceptional leaders and celebrating a legacy of excellence.
History
An investiture ceremony is among the oldest of traditions in academia. Originating in English universities and modeled after knighthood ceremonies, investiture comes from the Latin phrase for “dress in robe.” In academic circles, it refers to one who will don the university’s insignia and regalia.
